A Note Before You Order

Choose the correct motor voltage, horsepower, cord length, and thermostat option for your installation. A GFCI is required. Do not use an extension cord to supply power to the motor, and disconnect power whenever swimmers are present. For 115V installations, pay close attention to the total distance from the main breaker to the water area because voltage drop can affect operation beyond 100 feet.

Scott Aerator Floating De-Icer

The Scott Aerator Floating De-Icer is designed to keep large areas of water open during winter by moving warmer water from below the surface and creating continuous water movement. Suspended from a floating platform, the unit can help reduce damaging ice buildup around boats, docks, boathouses, marinas, and ponds.

The Floating De-Icer uses an oil-free stainless steel submersible motor operating at 3,450 RPM. Available in 1/3 HP through 1 HP configurations, it delivers flow rates from 300 to 500 GPM depending on the selected motor. The rugged polyurethane and stainless steel construction is designed for both fresh and salt water.

The floating design allows the unit to adjust with changing water levels. Cord lengths of 35, 50, and 100 feet are available, along with an optional in-line De-Icer Thermostat that can automatically activate the unit in cold temperatures.

Configuration Guide

Floating De-Icer 1/3 HP

Available in 115V or 230V configurations with a 300 GPM flow rate. The motor operates at 3,450 RPM and provides a flow distance of approximately 40 feet.

Available with 35, 50, or 100-foot power cords and an optional in-line De-Icer Thermostat.

Floating De-Icer 1/2 HP

Available in 115V or 230V configurations with a 400 GPM flow rate. The motor operates at 3,450 RPM and provides a flow distance of approximately 50 feet.

Available with 35, 50, or 100-foot power cords and an optional in-line De-Icer Thermostat.

Floating De-Icer 3/4 HP

Available in 115V or 230V configurations with a 450 GPM flow rate. The motor operates at 3,450 RPM and provides a flow distance of approximately 60 feet.

Available with 35, 50, or 100-foot power cords and an optional in-line De-Icer Thermostat.

Floating De-Icer 1 HP

Available in 115V or 230V configurations with a 500 GPM flow rate. The motor operates at 3,450 RPM and provides a flow distance of approximately 75 feet.

Available with 35, 50, or 100-foot power cords and an optional in-line De-Icer Thermostat.

Installation & Assembly

Floating Position

For the best results, the Floating De-Icer should be positioned approximately 12 inches below the water surface and angled upward at 45 degrees. The floating design allows the unit to adjust as water levels change.

Included Components

The Floating De-Icer assembly includes an 8-inch float bracket assembly, float platform, two 3-inch eye bolts with washers and lock nuts, and two 3/8-inch x 50-foot braided nylon ropes.

Tools needed include a 5/16-inch wrench or socket screwdriver and two 1/2-inch wrenches or pliers.

Angle Adjustment

The float bracket assembly can be tilted to set the direction of water flow. Secure the bracket with the supplied 5/16-inch x 1-inch hex cap screw after selecting the desired position.

Rope Securement

The two included nylon ropes are attached to the loops in the white rope and adjusted between docks or pilings to position the Floating De-Icer where it provides the desired ice protection. If the float rises when the unit is operating, the rope loops can be moved down approximately 3 to 4 inches.

Electrical Installation

Always use a GFCI-protected power supply. The manufacturer specifically states that an extension cord should not be used to supply power to the motor. Disconnect power whenever swimmers are present.

Maintenance & Winter Operation

Routine Maintenance

The Floating De-Icer requires little routine maintenance under normal operating conditions. When the unit is removed from the water, wash it with high-pressure water and visually inspect the entire unit to make sure debris is not restricting water flow.

Propeller Replacement

As a general maintenance recommendation, the propeller assembly should be replaced approximately every three years. This procedure can be completed on site and is also a suitable time to clean and inspect the unit.

Storage

If the De-Icer is removed from the lake or pond, the manufacturer recommends storing the pump submerged in a 5-gallon bucket of water to help prevent damage to the pump seals.

Optional Thermostat

The optional De-Icer Thermostat automatically activates the De-Icer in cold temperatures and can be adjusted from 0°F to 80°F. It features an impact-resistant enclosure and an 8-foot cord.

Warranty

5-Year Motor Warranty

The motor is unconditionally warranted for five years against defects in materials or workmanship under normal operating conditions.

All other product components are covered by a one-year warranty from the date of purchase, subject to the manufacturer's warranty terms.
