A Note Before You Order

The Amherst Fountain is available in 2 HP and 3 HP configurations, both using 230V power. Select the correct motor size, cord length, and lighting option for your installation. A GFCI-equipped power source is required, and Scott Aerator recommends using a licensed electrical contractor. Do not use an extension cord to supply power to the motor, and always disconnect power when swimmers are present.

Scott Aerator Amherst Fountain for Large, Commercial Ponds

The Amherst Fountain is a large-pond display fountain designed to combine water circulation with an attractive multi-tiered spray pattern. Its three-tier design creates a defined water display while moving water across the pond surface, supporting oxygen transfer and circulation.

The large commercial Amherst is available with either a 2 HP or 3 HP oil-free stainless steel submersible motor. The 2 HP model produces 135 gallons per minute with an 18-foot by 35-foot spray pattern, while the 3 HP model produces 170 gallons per minute with a 20-foot by 40-foot spray pattern. The 3 HP configuration can produce a center column reaching up to 35 feet.

The fountain is designed for continuous operation and can remain installed during winter. Simply turn off the power during freezing conditions and restore power after the water thaws. The stainless steel, oil-free motor is approved for use in both fresh and salt water.

Configuration Guide

Amherst Fountain 2 HP

The 2 HP model uses a 230V oil-free motor and produces 135 gallons per minute. It has an 18-foot by 35-foot spray pattern and requires a minimum pond depth of 56 inches.

The standard power cord is 100 feet of 10-gauge submersible cable. Longer cable lengths are available.

Amherst Fountain 3 HP

The 3 HP model uses a 230V oil-free motor and produces 170 gallons per minute. It has a 20-foot by 40-foot spray pattern and requires a minimum pond depth of 60 inches.

The standard power cord is 100 feet of 10-gauge submersible cable. Longer cable lengths are available.

Cord Length Options

The Amherst Fountain can be ordered with 100-foot, 150-foot, 200-foot, or 250-foot power cord configurations. The appropriate cable size and maximum run depend on the motor configuration and electrical installation.

Installation & Assembly

Included Components

The fountain assembly includes the float platform, pump assembly, stainless steel filter, stainless steel bolts, nuts, washers, and stainless steel screws. The nylon anchoring lines are not included.

Anchoring

Two nylon anchoring lines attach to the stainless steel eye bolts. The fountain can be secured to shore or anchored using two concrete blocks or suitable weights positioned at least 20 feet apart. The required minimum anchor weight depends on the motor configuration.

Electrical Installation

A GFCI-equipped power source is required. The installation instructions recommend using a licensed electrical contractor. The electrical cable must be sized according to the motor, cable length, and installation requirements. Do not use an extension cord to supply power to the motor.

Safety

Always disconnect power when swimmers are present. Each Amherst Fountain requires GFCI protection and should be installed according to applicable electrical codes and manufacturer instructions.

Maintenance & Winter Operation

Routine Maintenance

The Amherst Fountain requires little routine maintenance under normal operating conditions. When the fountain is removed from the water, wash it with high-pressure water and inspect the unit to make sure debris or other material is not restricting water flow.

Winter Operation

The manufacturer recommends leaving the Amherst Fountain in the water during winter rather than removing it. Turn off the power supply during freezing conditions and restore power once the water has thawed. The fountain components are designed to withstand sub-zero conditions.

Anchoring Line Replacement

Quality nylon anchoring rope should be replaced approximately every five years. Scott Aerator recommends 3/8-inch or thicker nylon rope for fountain anchoring.
