Quick Facts
A Note Before You Order
Choose the correct voltage configuration for your installation. The compressor must be connected to a GFCI-protected outlet, and the manufacturer recommends avoiding extension cords. The compressor should be installed in a protected, well-ventilated location away from flooding, excessive moisture, and direct contact with the ground.
Scott Aerator Bubble Pro Max XL Subsurface Aerator
The Bubble Pro Max XL is a subsurface aeration system designed to improve oxygen distribution and water circulation throughout larger ponds. Instead of creating a visible surface spray, the system places diffusers on the pond bottom and uses an onshore compressor to push air through weighted tubing. The rising bubbles create an upward current that brings oxygen-poor water toward the surface, where it can exchange gases with the atmosphere.
The Max XL includes four double diffusers, four 100-foot lengths of 3/8-inch Quick-Sink weighted tubing, and a 3/4 HP rocking-piston compressor. Individual valve controls allow the airflow to each diffuser to be adjusted, while the pressure relief valve helps manage system pressure. The system is available in 115V and 230V configurations and can also help with ice prevention during cold weather.
Configuration & Coverage Guide
Bubble Pro Max XL 115V
The 115V configuration uses a 3/4 HP rocking-piston compressor and is supplied with four double diffusers and four 100-foot lengths of weighted tubing.
UPC: 810094921927. MPN: 44150.
Bubble Pro Max XL 230V
The 230V configuration provides the same four-diffuser Max XL system with a compressor configured for 230V electrical service.
UPC: 810094928575. MPN: 44150.23.
Coverage by Pond Depth
At 5 to 8 feet of pond depth, the Bubble Pro Max XL is rated for approximately 1 acre of coverage.
At 9 to 12 feet of pond depth, the system is rated for approximately 2 acres of coverage.
At 13 to 16 feet of pond depth, the system is rated for approximately 4 acres of coverage.
Diffuser Placement
The installation guide recommends placing diffusers at approximately two-thirds to three-quarters of the pond's deepest point rather than directly at the deepest location. This placement helps maintain cooler deep water during summer and warmer deep water during winter.
Specifications & Details
Installation & Assembly
Included Components
The kit includes one 3/4 HP compressor, four self-weighted diffuser bases, eight diffuser membranes, four 100-foot rolls of 3/8-inch self-weighted air tubing, a quadruple valve assembly, four barbed check valve fittings, eight hose clamps, four padded hose clamps, and the required fittings.
Diffuser Assembly
Assemble the diffuser components before placing them in the pond. The weighted diffuser bases are designed to remain positioned on the pond bottom while air is supplied through the connected tubing.
Tubing Installation
Unroll each tubing length completely and install the diffusers before connecting the tubing to the compressor assembly. Any unused tubing can be trimmed before the final connection. Clamps are used to secure the tubing to the outlet assembly.
Airflow Adjustment
Open the outlet valves fully before startup. After connecting the compressor to a GFCI-protected outlet, adjust each valve to balance airflow between the diffusers. Individual valve adjustment helps compensate for differences in diffuser depth and tubing length.
Compressor Placement
The compressor should be protected from rain, snow, and other harsh weather. Provide a ventilated shelter, keep the compressor off the ground, and position it where it cannot become flooded. Shaded locations are preferred when practical.
Operation & Maintenance
Continuous Operation
The compressor is designed for continuous operation. The manufacturer notes that these compressors may operate 24 hours per day for extended periods. Continuous operation helps maintain consistent circulation and oxygen distribution throughout the pond.
Compressor Maintenance
Routine maintenance is limited primarily to keeping the compressor filter clean and replacing wearable components when necessary. The compressor is designed for oil-free operation and should never be oiled or lubricated.
Seasonal Startup
If the pond is already strongly stratified when the system is installed or restarted, the manufacturer recommends gradually increasing operating time during the first week. This allows the lower water layers to mix more gradually rather than being disturbed all at once.
Winter Operation
The Bubble Pro system can also assist with ice prevention. In freezing climates, tubing entering the pond should be buried to help prevent ice from forming around the tubing and potentially damaging or disconnecting it.
Safety & Installation Precautions
Electrical Safety
The system must be connected to a GFCI-protected outlet. Avoid using extension cords to operate the compressor. Always disconnect electrical power before servicing the system.
Pressure Safety
Relieve pressure from the air system before performing service or maintenance. Keep children and pets away from operating equipment.
Winter Ice Safety
Operating diffusers create underwater currents that can result in thin or unsafe ice in areas surrounding the diffuser operation. Use extreme caution around frozen ponds and provide appropriate warnings for anyone using or approaching the pond during winter.
Compressor Temperature
The compressor surface becomes hot during normal operation. Avoid touching the compressor while it is running.
Warranty
2-Year Warranty
The Bubble Pro Max XL is covered by a two-year warranty according to the manufacturer's product information and supplied documentation.
