Quick Facts
A Note Before You Order
Algae Shield is intended for nutrient management in ponds and lakes. Follow the current product label and application instructions for complete treatment details. Application conditions can vary by pond size, water volume, water chemistry, and other site conditions.
Scott Aerator Algae Shield
Algae Shield is an all-natural, mineral-based water treatment designed to reduce the nutrients that contribute to algae growth in ponds and lakes. By binding dissolved phosphates and other nutrients, the treatment helps make those nutrients biologically unavailable and supports clearer water and a more balanced aquatic environment.
A 5-gallon bucket contains 22 pounds of product and treats up to 500,000 gallons of water. The silicate-enhanced formula is designed to work across a pH range of 5.5 to 10, while treated nutrients settle as insoluble particles at the bottom of the pond. Depending on application method and site conditions, the resulting nutrient barrier can remain effective for up to 15 years.
How Algae Shield Works
Nutrient Binding
Algae Shield bonds with dissolved nutrients in the water and converts them into insoluble particles that settle to the pond bottom. Once bound, these nutrients become biologically unavailable, reducing the nutrient supply that can contribute to future algae growth.
Silicate-Enhanced Formula
The silicate-enhanced formula is designed to improve particle stability and support nutrient removal across a wide pH range. The manufacturer states that the product is effective from pH 5.5 to 10.
Long-Term Nutrient Control
Depending on application method and site conditions, Algae Shield can create a nutrient barrier that remains effective for up to 15 years.
Specifications & Details
Application Guide
1. Prepare
Mix Algae Shield with water in a separate container at a 4:1 ratio, using four parts water to one part product.
2. Transfer
Transfer the mixed slurry into an appropriate applicator, such as a backpack sprayer or similar equipment.
3. Apply
Distribute the slurry evenly across the surface of the pond or lake. Wind can assist with spreading the mixture across the water surface, while water movement carries the product beneath the surface.
4. Clean & Store
Rinse the applicator thoroughly after use. The manufacturer recommends emptying the rinse water back into the pond and storing the equipment for future use.
Application Tips
Use a Separate Mixing Container
Do not mix Algae Shield directly inside the applicator. Prepare the slurry in a separate container to help prevent buildup and possible equipment damage.
Maintain the 4:1 Ratio
Keep the mixture at the recommended four parts water to one part product ratio. Avoid excessive dilution, as the slurry should remain properly mixed during application.
Keep the Slurry Moving
For best results, the manufacturer recommends using a trash pump or other continuous agitation equipment to keep the slurry evenly mixed during application.
Use Wind and Water Movement
Wind can help distribute the treatment across the water surface. Beneath the surface, water movement carries the product diagonally through the water.
